Philippines, Malaysia - Tropical Cyclone SANBA

  • Tropical Cyclone SANBA (named BASYANG in the Philippines) continued moving north-west over the Sulu Sea heading toward Palawan island (MIMAROPA, Philippines) as a Tropical Depression.  
  • Over the next 24 hours, it may reach southern Palawan and then the South China Sea, weakening. Heavy rain and strong winds may affect Palawan and Visayas, Bicol Region, Visayas and Caraga, as well as north-eastern Malaysia.
  • According to media, as of 15 February at 7.00 UTC, five people have been killed in the municipality of Carrascal (Surigao del Sur province, Caraga region) due to landslides triggered by the heavy rain. National authorities also reported that over 21 100 people have been affected by floods in Central Visayas Region and CARAGA. 21 133 people have been evacuated, of which 21 049 remain in 102 evacuation centres.
