Indonesia - Earthquake Update

  • After the 6.4 M earthquake at 6 Km depth that hit northern Lombok Island (West Nusa Tenggara Province, central-southern Indonesia) on 28 July, 16 people are confirmed dead and 355 are injured. Some 5 141 people are displaced and at least 1 454 houses are destroyed. The government agencies coordinate the response. Also, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) has undertaken rapid assessment and delivered immediate assistance such as family kits, hygiene kits, blankets, drinking water and mobile kitchens.
  • The search and rescue efforts for the survivors of the earthquake in Lombok of Indonesia are ongoing, with the main focus being directed at saving the stranded tourists at the Mount Rinjani where over 450 people still need assistance. The EU Delegation and the EU diplomatic missions are providing consular aid to the citizens and coordinating their efforts with the Indonesian Army Special Forces.
