Portugal - Forest Fire

Since 3 August a fire has been burning in the municipality of Monchique, southern Portugal mainland (Faro district, Portugal). This fire, as of 6 August at 8.00 UTC, has already burned an area of approximately 3 000 ha.
The Portugues National Authority of Civil Protection has therefore triggered the Copernicus Emergency Mapping Service to monitor the evolution of the forest fire.
According to local media, as of 6 August, hundreds have been evacuated and dozens of houses have been damaged in the municipality of Monchique.
JRC-EFFIS forecast, as of 6 August, the fire danger forecast remain very high for the area of the fires on 7 August.
Over the next 24 hours, dry conditions and temperatures overtopping 30ºC degrees may affect the areas of the forest fires.
