Portugal - Forest fires UPDATE

- ECHO Daily flash of 07/08/2018

  • Since 3 August a fire has been burning in the municipality of Monchique, southern Portugal mainland (Faro district, Portugal). 
  • The Portugues National Authority of Civil Protection has activated the Copernicus Emergency Mapping Service on 5 August at 16.11 UTC to monitor the evolution of the forest fire. 
  • As of 7 August, 29 people were reported as having light injuries, hundreds have been evacuated and dozens of houses have been damaged in the municipality of Monchique.
  • JRC-EFFIS forecast, as of 7 August: the fire danger forecast remain extreme for the area of the fires on 7 and 8 of August. 
  • Over the next 24 hours, dry conditions, temperatures exceeding 28ºC degrees and northwest winds up to 30 km/h may affect the areas of the forest fires.
