Spain - Forest fires
- ECHO Daily flash of 08/08/2018
A heat wave that has produced very high temperatures, along with little to no precipitation across Spain is one of the main reasons for the very high fire risk forecast in the country. Several forest fires have been ignited, with the most significant being in Andalucia and Valencia regions.
While the fire in Andalucia is under control, the one in Llutxent, Valencia was still active, as of 7 August. According to Spanish Civil Protection, the fires have burned more than 3 300 ha cumulatively and multiple aerial means and ground forces with vehicles have been engaged.
An estimated 2 500 people have already been evacuated pre-emptively by the authorities in Valencian region.
The fire risk forecast is not expected to improve in the next couple of days as high temperatures and no precipitation will continue, especially for central and southern Spain.
