Commissioner
Stylianides announced a EUR 3 million allocation for the victims of this
crisis.
- More
than 379 000 refugees have crossed into Bangladesh since 25 August. This corresponds to approximately one third of the estimated Rohingya population in
Myanmar.
- There are worrying
reports about extensive burnings of several villages in Rathedaung (central
Rakhine). According to the State Secretary, all three camps in Rathedaung (3 500 people) are now empty. Unverified reports indicate that nearly all of the Muslim population in Ratheduang could be displaced.
- State
media reports that approximately 1 400 displaced ethnic Rakhine, located in
temporary shelters in Maungdaw, have been assisted to return home.
- Resumption
of services in central Rakhine remains heavily constrained. Only one sub-rural
health centre has reopened so far. Issues
with travel authorizations (preventing international staff from travelling to
camps) and reluctance of private transport providers are hindering
partner’s capacity to refer patients to the Sittwe General Hospital.
- Food
assistance distributions in central Rakhine for approximately 50 000 people in
fifteen IDP camps resumed on 12 September.
- In
Bangladesh, the Prime Minister visited the refugee camps. He asked the
international community to tell Myanmar to take back all Rohingyas. The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs is organising a visit for ambassadors today. Biometric
registration of new arrivals had started, initially for all those who arrived
since 25 August, and subsequently to all Rohingyas in the country.
