Philippines, China, Vietnam - Tropical Cyclone ELEVEN

  • Tropical Cyclone ELEVEN (locally named HENRY) formed over the North Philippine Sea on 15 July. It then started moving west as a Tropical Depression and strengthening toward Babuyan group of islands (Philippines). On 16 July at 0.00 UTC its centre was located 340 km east of Babuyan island and it had maximum sustained winds of 56 km/h (Tropical depression).
  • Over the next 24 hours, it is forecast to pass close or over Babuyan group of islands on 16 July morning UTC, probably as a Tropical Storm. Afterwards, it is expected to continue heading west over the South China Sea toward Hainan island (China), still as a Tropical Storm. Heavy rain and strong winds may affect several areas of Batanes, the northern portion of Cagayan including Babuyan Group of Islands, the northern portion of Apayao, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte.
  • According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Servies Administration, as of 16 July, a tropical cyclone warning signal #1 is in effect for several areas of Babuyan islands and northern Luzon island (Philippines).
