On 16 July, more than 1 600 people of the indigenous Lumad were forced to leave their homes in the remote villages in the mountains of Surigao Del Sur in Mindanao, due to the presence of armed forces in the area. They sought temporary shelter at the gymnasium of Barangay Diatagon in the Municipality of Lianga, respectively in host families. Also displaced are 568 students from the indigenous community and 48 teachers as their schools in their villages have been affected by the conflict.
Immediate humanitarian needs are food, medicines, plastic sheets for emergency shelters, and hygiene kits.
