Djibouti hosts approximately 23,000 asylum seekers and refugees from Somalia and Eritrea who are in need of basic shelter, clean water and protection.
Following the Yemen crisis, more people, including 10 000 Yemenis, have arrived since March. This new influx is placing further strain on the country’s limited natural resources and services.
The Commission has just released an additional €1 million to help Djibouti face the increasing number of refugees and returnees fleeing from Yemen.
EU humanitarian funding goes to ensuring refugees have access to clean water and sanitation as well as shelter, protection, nutrition and health care. Cash is also given to boost their self-reliance.
