Iran - Earthquake

  • An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 M at a depth of 5.7 km hit north-western Iran on 22 July at 10.07 UTC. The epicenter was located approximately 35 km north-east of Sarpol Zahab city (Kermanshah Province, close to the border with Iraq) and 88 km north-west of Kermanshah city. USGS PAGER indicates shaking up to "very strong" for 1 000 people and up to "strong" for 12 000 people.
  • According to media, as of 23 July at 7.30 UTC, at least 232 people were reported injured and some 80 buildings were damaged in the western part of the Kermanshah Province. No fatalities have been reported.
