Spain - Forest fire UPDATE

- ECHO Daily flash of 09/08/2018

  • Several forest fires have been burning across the country, with the most significant being in Llutxent, Valencia. 
  • According to Spanish Civil Protection, the Llutxent fire has burned more than 3 300 ha cumulatively and multiple aerial means and ground forces with vehicles have been engaged. An estimated 2 620 people have already been evacuated pre-emptively by the authorities in Valencia region and at least 15 houses have been damaged in Llutxent.
  • The Spanish National Authority of Civil Protection activated the Copernicus Emergency Mapping Service on 7 August at 10.32 UTC to monitor the evolution of the forest fire.
  • JRC-EFFIS forecast, as of 9 August: the fire danger forecast remains from moderate to very high for the area on 9 and 10 of August. Over the next 24 hours, cloudy conditions with scattered rain and thunderstorms, along with temperatures exceeding 36ºC degrees and winds up to 29 km/h may affect the areas of the forest fires.
